Description
Gula Djawa is the name for palm sugar, which is extracted on Java. The sugar has a light caramel taste, but is less sweet than our granulated sugar. The gula Djawa is used in many Indonesian dishes.
With a knife you cut pieces of the slice or you grate some sugar in the dish. It gives your dish a soft sweet taste and a nice light brown color. If you do not want your dish to have a light brown color, take granulated sugar, but you will not get the authentic taste of the gula Djawa.
